Your Kuna Summer, Weekend By Weekend: What's Actually On The Calendar

Kuna used to be the town people drove through on the way to Swan Falls. That story is stale. Between the city's Parks and Recreation programming, the Chamber's flagship weekend, and a downtown dining bench that finally has some depth, a family living here can plan almost every Friday and Saturday in July and August around a named event without leaving city limits. The trick is knowing which nights the good stuff lands and where to eat before or after. Here is the map.

Moonlight Movies Is The Weeknight You Are Missing

The Moonlight Movies series is the easiest thing in town to underuse. It runs at Bernie Fisher Park, which is the same greenbelt-adjacent stretch behind City Hall that hosts most other city events, and the schedule for 2026 puts Toy Story on July 10 and Lilo & Stitch on August 14, with a Nightmare Before Christmas screening carrying the tradition into October. Screenings start at 8:00 PM, which in mid-July means the sun is still hanging on and the grass is still warm. Bring a blanket, not chairs, if you want to sit close.

A few practical notes worth knowing before you go. Leashed pets are welcome, and owners are responsible for cleaning up after them. Smoking is not permitted at city events. If you have a horse you had planned to ride down, the city has been explicit that horses not affiliated with official city events are prohibited, which is the kind of small-town sentence you only get to write about Kuna.

Greenbelt Groove Fest Is The One To Circle

If you pick one Kuna event to actually plan around this summer, make it Greenbelt Groove Fest on July 25. It sits in the sweet spot between the July 4 fireworks crowd and the Kuna Days crush a week later, and it uses the Kuna Greenbelt behind City Hall rather than shutting down Main. That geography matters. The greenbelt is where the majority of city events are held, on the greenbelt area behind City Hall or at Bernie Fisher Park, and it stays walkable even when the crowd fills in.

If you have out-of-town family visiting the week before Kuna Days, Groove Fest is the softer landing. It shows the town at its most manageable.

Kuna Days: Yes, It Really Is That Big

Here is the number that reframes Kuna Days for anyone who thinks of it as a small-town parade. Kuna Days draws upwards of 30,000 people to a town of around 30,000. Every resident, effectively, plus a cousin. That is the demographic reality of the first weekend of August in this town, and it changes how you plan.

The weekend is a joint production. The Chamber of Commerce runs the big celebration, and the city's Parks and Recreation department layers in three of the more memorable pieces: the Friday Night Movie, the Down N' Dirty Mud Run, and the Cornhole Tournament. The Mud Run in particular is worth flagging if you have kids. It runs on the Kuna BMX Track at 351 W 2nd Street, and the Parks crew builds an obstacle course sized by age group. Age groups run 0-5, 6-8, 9-11, and 12 and up, it is free, and it is always scheduled 11 AM to 12:30 PM on the second day of Kuna Days, right after the parade lets out. Bring a towel and clothes to change into. The name is accurate.

One thing to keep straight, because it trips up newer residents every year: Kuna Days is not the Kuna Hometown Fair. As the This Is Boise 2026 calendar puts it, "Don't confuse Kuna Days with the Kuna Hometown Fair, a separate Chamber event at Bernie Fisher Park (May 8–10, 2026)." Different weekend, different vibe, both worth attending.

The Local Detail That Explains The Whole Calendar

Arielle Goodwin, Kuna's Special Events Coordinator, framed it well when the city rolled out this year's Hometown Fair. "The Kuna Hometown Fair is very special because you can really feel the community support," she said. That is the operating philosophy behind the whole summer slate: build events that assume everyone knows everyone. It is why the Mud Run is free, why the first 350 attendees at Mimosas with Mom get free blooms from Posy Blue, and why Popsicles with the Mayor is a real thing on the calendar.

Downtown Main is your before-the-movie option. Enrique's Mexican Restaurant, Lima Limon for Peruvian, Riceworks Sushi & Asian Fusion Steakhouse, Tasty Thai, and Tito's Taqueria all sit in the compact core of restaurants that anchor Kuna proper. Yelp's April 2026 running list of top Kuna restaurants leads with River Six, Enrique's Mexican Restaurant, Lima Limon Restaurant, Riceworks Sushi & Asian Fusion Steakhouse, Tasty Thai, Best Burger Buns Down, Tito's Taqueria, and El Patio. That is a wider spread of cuisines than a town this size usually supports, and it is why Groove Fest and Moonlight Movie nights have a real pre-event pattern now.

Out At Valor: River Six

River Six deserves its own paragraph. It sits at 11650 Courage Lane inside the Valor community and takes its name from the six rivers feeding the Snake in the Treasure Valley. The kitchen leans on craft beer, cocktails, and wood-fired pizzas, thoughtfully prepared using locally sourced ingredients. It is closed Monday and Tuesday, open Wednesday through Sunday, and it is the closest thing Kuna has to a special-occasion room without driving to Meridian or Boise. Reviewers point to the location overlooking the golf courses and lakes as the draw. Save it for the night you actually want to sit down.

Late-Night After The Fireworks

The chain-and-taqueria layer matters on Kuna Days weekend because everything downtown is either shut for the parade route or slammed. Delivery-friendly spots like Ling & Louie's Asian Bar and Grill and the taco trucks that circulate through town are your realistic 9:30 PM fallback. If you want to plan ahead, know that around 80 restaurants and shops in Kuna offer delivery on Uber Eats, which is more density than most residents realize.

When The Summer Calendar Tips Into Fall

There is a moment in mid-September when the summer series ends and the Lowe Family Farmstead machine turns on. Lowe's operates on 2500 S. Eagle Rd. from mid-September through October 30, 2026. If you are new to Kuna, this is the transition to be ready for: greenbelt concerts give way to corn mazes and hayrides, and Lowe's becomes the reason a lot of Boise and Meridian families end up in Kuna on October weekends. The traffic pattern flips. Locals who have lived here a while treat late August as the last window to enjoy Bernie Fisher Park without the pumpkin-season crowd, and they are right to.

The value of living in Kuna in the summer of 2026 is not that any single event is world-class. It is that you can string a genuinely full weekend together, on foot, from a schedule the city and Chamber have quietly built out over the last several years. A Friday movie under the stars, a Saturday mud run at the BMX track, a Sunday pizza at River Six, and a Groove Fest thrown in between. That is a real summer, and it is happening a block from your house.
